Mycenae, Nafplio, Monemvasia, Gythio, Sparta, Mystras, Mani, Galaxidi, Nafpaktos, Patras, Delphi, alternate in front of us and we sit comfortably in the place of the spectator-traveler we enjoy passing in front of us your new story, the beginning of us
Day 1: Departure for Epidaurus and Nafplio
We start early in the morning because our day will be extremely interesting before we reach our final destination. After some necessary stops to drink a quick coffee, we will make our most important stop in Epidaurus. Epidaurus is the most important ancient place of worship of the god Asclepius. Famous throughout Greece made its Asclepieion, one of the most important of antiquity and of course the ancient theater, work of the architect Polykleitos which still remains unsurpassed even today in beauty and acoustics.
It is amazing that even the exhalation of the actor reaches the last series !!! Most visitors leave Epidaurus having only seen the theater. But we will take a fascinating walk in the internationally renowned medical center of antiquity. We will see Katagogio, the largest building of the Asclepieion, and we will imagine an ancient five-star hotel with 160 apartments, where patients and their companions stayed. We will tour the Restaurant, the Baths – in which the ancient washbasins can still be seen – and the Tholos, the mysterious place of worship that housed the underground residence of Asclepius and is still considered the most perfect circular building of ancient Greek architecture.
With exceptional impressions from a unique place, a monument of world heritage but also of historical importance, we leave for the beautiful Nafplio. a manorial city with a deep history that you can not help but love. A beautiful setting that no matter how many times you see it always fascinates me. We will tour the most important sights such as the church of Agios Spyridon (where Ioannis Kapodistrias was assassinated), the church of Agios Georgios (with important icons and frescoes, such as the copy of the Last Supper of Da Vinci), the Square of Three Arch , the Government or Palataki, as well as Filellinon Square Of course we will have time to visit and admire Palamidi, a fortress which was built in 1687 by the Venetians at a height of 216 meters.
The tour is over !! We will have time for food and drink on the main pedestrian street of Vassileos Konstantinos with the countless shops, on Staikopoulou Street with its many taverns, on the beach promenade of Bouboulina, but also in Psaromachalas, the oldest district inhabited since the beginning of the 13th century. Friendly advice !! Look for the “Italian” that offers handmade Italian ice cream and sorbet in various fruit flavors and is now a trademark of the city Go and settle in our hotel
Day 2: Mycenae, Monemvasia, Sparta
We are sure that you wanted to stay in Nafplio for at least another… many days. We promise to come again. Good morning to get strength and the “Multicolored” Mycenae are waiting for us For many centuries people believed that the adjective multicolored was just decorative. Until Henry Schliemann, with the stubbornness that distinguished him, discovered in pit tombs in the northeastern Peloponnese, untold treasures of gold jewelry and gave the adjective “Polychryses”, its real content.
Many of the jewels found in the royal tombs of Mycenae are now housed in the Archaeological Museum of Athens. In our tour (and not in a simple tour) we will give the importance we need to one of the oldest and most important cities of antiquity. From the place of ancient history we depart for the place of tradition and legends. How else to describe Monemvasia, the “stone boat” of Ritsos !! place of origin of the great poet. Stone houses, Byzantine churches, beautiful Venetian mansions and stone alleys compose a fairytale setting that will take us back in time! She was coveted by many: knights, pirates, crusaders and emperors…
It’s time to discover her and to be seduced by her charm! With the house of Ritsos, the church of the Dragon Christ and the cute Archaeological Museum as reference points, the walks in the alleys of the castle are scattered with the colors from the heroic past of the area. So we leave the dream castle and head to the “city of heroes” Sparta. Neoclassical buildings, boulevards, squares, sidewalks and green spaces, museums and archeological sites adorn Sparta creating the visitor a sense of austerity and pleasure. We settle in our hotel, and after we rest we are waiting for a walk with our companion in the city
Day 3: Mystras, Caves of Diros, Gythio, Mani
We are enjoying our breakfast and we are ready to leave. The castle city of Mystras is waiting for us and is literally “waiting” since it is very close, almost next to Sparta. our mansions travel to the past. The tour of its stone cobbled streets is a journey into history that we will not forget when it is necessary to visit the Diocese dedicated to Agios Dimitrios.
Constantine Paleologos was crowned emperor here, the only emperor who was crowned in an area outside Constantinople. From the heroic era and the epic of the Palaeologans we will be transported to a real miracle of nature such as the caves of Diros. top caves in the world with its age estimated at 2 to 3 million years!
Beneath the simple landscape of Mani, nature with incomparable art and patience sculpted a miracle beyond any imagination; white stalactites and stalagmites, glittering crystals adorn every corner, creating an incomparable spectacle! For your end we keep it “Maniatiko” and we will visit the beautiful port city, Gythio. Walk on the waterfront, the necessary coffee and return to Sparta
Day 4: Ancient Olympia, Patras
Breakfast is a very important meal – it can either make or break your day. Then we leave for the “valley of the gods” as the area of Ancient Olympia has been characterized. One of the most important archeological sites in the world, which attracts thousands of visitors every year.
It is located in the beautiful valley of the river Alfeios, where the most glorious sanctuary of ancient Greece flourished, which was dedicated to the father of the gods, Zeus. The archeological site includes, in addition to the Sanctuary of Zeus, the temples and buildings directly related to the cult, and various buildings that were built around it, such as sports facilities used for the preparation and conduct of the Olympic Games, auxiliary buildings, utility and administrative, as well as secular buildings.
The alternations continue, from the “ancient spirit, the immortal” we depart for Patras. Lively young city, bustling port and queen of the Greek carnival. The correct road plan, with large main roads parallel to the port, vertical sidewalks and large squares, create a sense of simplicity and are suitable for walking. Three Allies Square opposite the port is a classic meeting point against the backdrop of the Clock and the -desert today- historic neoclassical hotel “Majestic” which has hosted historical figures.
The walk that leads to the restored lighthouse – to the west of the port – is a favorite spot for the sunset. Behind us stands the impressive church of the patron Saint Andreas, where everyone gives the “present” on the day of his feast. We settle in our hotel, which because we chose it as central we have the opportunity in the afternoon to walk in the famous square “high threshing floor” recommended by our friends from Patras, as the most beautiful in the city.
Day 5: Nafpaktos, Galaxidi, Delphi, return to our city
We will need a good breakfast today because it is a day of return and we will need strength, but let us not be sad because we will visit a series of beautiful places. From life in its picturesque Venetian port to the narrow alleys… We will greet Miguel Cervantes (author of Don Quixote) whose statue in the port reminds us that he participated in the famous naval battle of the same name and we will leave for Galaxidi. in 1978, Galaxidi has a manorial beauty that takes you on a journey. Its port still carries the glamor of the days when it was full of braces and schooners.
With sweet nostalgia for times that have passed irrevocably, we go to find out our future, what is the most suitable place from Delphi with the famous oracle !! Delphi was the navel of the earth, where, according to mythology, the two eagles sent by Zeus from the ends of the universe to find the center of the world met, and for many centuries were the spiritual and religious center and its symbol. unity of ancient Hellenism. Impressed by the mysterious atmosphere and richer in images and experiences we take the road back
